Overview
St. Lucia's volcanic origins create an underwater landscape unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean. The Pitons — twin volcanic peaks rising 750 metres from the sea — continue below the waterline as dramatic walls, pinnacles, and lava formations. The Soufrière Marine Management Area protects the best diving on the island.
Anse Chastanet, a sheltered bay beneath the Pitons, is the hub of St. Lucia diving. The reef here begins just metres from the beach and offers exceptional shallow diving, while the deeper sites feature dramatic volcanic formations, black sand slopes, and hydrothermal vents.
St. Lucia is a macro photographer's paradise. The volcanic substrate supports unusual encrusting life, and the black sand slopes around Soufrière are home to seahorses, frogfish, and rare nudibranchs. The island also offers some of the Caribbean's best night diving.

Top Dive Sites
Anse Chastanet Reef
St. Lucia's most celebrated dive site. The reef begins at the surface and drops through spectacular volcanic formations. Exceptional fish life and regular turtle sightings.
Piton Wall
The underwater extension of the Pitons creates a dramatic wall dive with black coral, large sponges, and the occasional whale shark. One of the Caribbean's most visually striking dives.
Superman's Flight
A thrilling drift dive along the Piton wall. The current carries divers along dramatic overhangs and through schools of fish. Named for the sensation of flying.
Lesleen M Wreck
A 55-metre freighter sunk in 1986 in Anse Cochon Bay. Now heavily encrusted with corals and sponges, it's home to large grouper, moray eels, and frogfish.
Anse La Raye
A sheltered bay with excellent macro diving on volcanic black sand. Seahorses, frogfish, and nudibranchs are regularly found here by patient photographers.
Coral Gardens
A shallow, colourful reef ideal for beginners and snorkelers. Good coral coverage, abundant reef fish, and calm conditions make this a reliable first dive.

Dive Safety Reminder
The Soufrière Marine Management Area charges a daily fee for diving — ensure your operator has paid the fee before entering the water. Hydrothermal vents near Anse Chastanet can be extremely hot — do not touch the substrate. Drift dives require experience and a surface marker buoy.
