Roatán
Overview
Roatán is the largest of Honduras's Bay Islands and sits directly on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System — the second-largest barrier reef in the world. The reef wraps around the entire island, providing spectacular wall diving on the north side and calmer, shallower diving on the south.

Top Dive Sites
Mary's Place
Roatán's most famous dive site. A dramatic crevice splits the wall, creating a narrow canyon filled with black coral, sponges, and an extraordinary density of fish life.
Spooky Channel
A narrow channel cut through the reef creates a thrilling drift dive with excellent fish life. Swim-throughs, overhangs, and the occasional whale shark sighting make this a highlight.
West End Wall
The accessible wall off West End village. Excellent coral health, regular turtle sightings, and easy shore access make this the go-to site for independent divers.
Hole in the Wall
A large cavern opening in the north wall creates a dramatic swim-through with shafts of light. Large grouper and barracuda patrol the entrance.
Cordelia Banks
A series of deep pinnacles rising from the sand at 40m. Whale sharks are regularly spotted here, along with eagle rays and large pelagics.
West Bay Beach Reef
The shallow reef fronting West Bay Beach is one of the Caribbean's best beginner dive sites. Excellent coral, abundant fish, and calm conditions year-round.

Dive Safety Reminder
Lionfish are present throughout Roatán's reefs — do not touch. The north wall can have strong currents; always dive with a local guide on unfamiliar sites. Whale shark encounters at Cordelia Banks are seasonal — check with operators for current sighting reports.
